    Al is a registered architect in the State of California and is our school’s founder and principal. He has been active on many national, regional and state CAD and BIM standards committees. His architectural practice, whitleygroup.com, has received many awards for technical achievement. Al teaches at UC San Diego and has developed the University’s CAD and BIM certificate programs. He enjoys spending his off-time riding his BMW motorcycle, hiking in the local Cuyamaca mountains and trekking through Yosemite.

    Ashley brings a wealth of project management and customer support experience to VDCI | cadteacher. She is the kind of person who makes everyone she meets feel 100% welcome, so she is a natural as our Program Manager. She is very engaged with our Policies and Procedures and ensures that our academic records are appropriately maintained to ensure a strong relationship with VDCI’s accreditation agency. Ash enjoys working with our students and helping them to succeed in their professional careers. She and her friends host some amazing art-oriented festivities- again, always making people feel welcome!

    Tyler holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Newschool of Architecture and Design in San Diego. He has a wealth of experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks and other BIM and 3D-modeling programs as well as Adobe Creative Suite programs. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and cycling throughout the San Diego area.

    Mike is recognized by Autodesk as one of the country's leading Revit Certified Instructors. He has terrific experience integrating Revit, 3dsMax and Rhino. He is a hard-charging, "get it done right" kind of person who has incredible talents and is very attentive to detail. Mike uses Revit Architecture on medium and large-scale Government and institutional projects. Mike has been an integral member of our team for the past four years. In his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, his children and their dog.

    Trevor is a licensed architect and is also one of San Diego's leading BIM Facilitators, expertly coordinating Navisworks, Revit and other BIM technologies for use on Government and Institutional projects. Trevor holds a BArch from Woodbury University and is a LEED AP. In his spare time, Trevor regularly hikes and camps in the local mountains, and also enjoys spending time in the redwood forests of Northern California.

    Derek has a Master's in Architecture from Kansas State University. He has earned numerous design awards for his architectural projects in Kansas and in California. Derek is one of the leaders in North America, in his ability to integrate Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD and SketchUp. Derek enjoys spending his free time with his family and also entering design competitions, to push his creative envelope.

    Mike is a Civil Engineer with significant experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD and MicroStation. A member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Mike brings a wealth of experience working on transportation engineering and site development projects. Like many on the VDCI | cadteacher staff, Mike is an avid hiker and enjoys spending time with his family in the local Cuyamaca and Laguna mountains.

    David has a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Penn State University. He has been using Autodesk programs for over 9 years and enjoys working and teaching in the architectural industry. In addition to working with the Autodesk suite, he has significant experience in 3D modeling, the Adobe Creative Suite, and SketchUp. David enjoys spending his free time with his wife biking, playing ultimate Frisbee, and listening to audiobooks by the fire.

    John has many years of experience using Revit and AutoCAD in the professional architectural office, working on commercial, government and residential projects – pushing Revit to the limits. John graduated from VDCI in 2010. He has served as an onsite TA for many years and teaches many of our online AutoCAD courses. An avid bicycler, John enjoys travelling and experiencing the great outdoors all around the world.

  • Lucia Currans, BA Communications Arts

    CAD / BIM Multimedia Specialist

    Lucia leads our Multimedia program, working closely with our instructors and our administrative staff to keep the VDCI online experience working smoothly and making it an environment which best serves our students. She is amazingly focused, always has a friendly smile, and is ready to tell a great joke at a moment's notice. Lucia and her family enjoy camping in the State Parks in North America.
