In 1997, cadteacher/vdci was founded by Al Whitley, MBA, AIA, to teach architects, engineers and contractors in San Diego how to most effectively and appropriately use AutoCAD in their offices. cadteacher/vdci began an extension of the client support services of his AIA award-winning San Diego-based architectural practice, Whitley Consulting Group.
Al is a technology geek. Beginning in 1989, the primary thrust of his architectural practice was to push the technology envelope. Back then, most of his firm's work was providing CAD 2D and 3D project documentation, visualization and animation support to fellow members of the Southern California construction industry.
In the early 1990s, Al developed the
AutoCAD curriculum for the University of California San Diego Extension College. An avid talker (OK, there are times when he never shuts up), Al realized that he truly enjoyed sharing his skills and the capabilities of CAD technology.
early 2000s, cadteacher/vdci and UC San Diego integrated their educational programs.
Today, the cadteacher/vdci program is registered with and nationally accredited by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE), the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and the Accredition Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET). We are approved and licensed by the State of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). cadteacher/vdci is one of the leading Autodesk Training Centers in North America. All of our online Autodesk courses are approved by Autodesk for eLearning. We are also an AIA (American Institute of Architects) Continuing Education Provider, and continue to be closely related with UC San Diego Extension College.
cadteacher/vdci is the first organically-grown CAD and BIM Vocational School in North America. To us, this is quite an honor, and we thank everyone who has been a part of our evolution. We won't let you down.
The cadteacher/vdci staff includes highly respected and award-winning architects, project
managers and experienced CAD and BIM professionals. Our team of dedicated professionals
go beyond the norm, and bring their practical, professional experience
into the classroom and our online experiences.
cadteacher/vdci appreciates our advisory
council of architects, engineers and contractors who help
us ensure that our courses and our certificate programs are appropriate for today's (and
tomorrow's) professional skill set requirements.
